The Kerala High Court has granted interim protection from arrest to MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil in a rape case, citing his serious contentions of a consensual relationship.
The petition alleges political motives ahead of elections, claiming the complainant feared media pressure and denied the relationship to protect herself.
Sanjana had submitted the complaint to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi.
On Monday, Rahul arrived at the House about 9.15 am during the obit reference for former Chief Minister and Communist veteran VS Achuthanandan and two other former members of the House.
Sources said Rahul's name was mentioned in a conversation recovered from the mobile phone of the third accused. With this, the Crime Branch has intensified its move to re-examine the MLA.
He said that reports of multiple incidents, including one where the victim was allegedly threatened with death if a pregnancy was not aborted, underline the criminal nature of the issue.
