The Assam flood situation remained grim on Thursday even as water receded from most parts of the state. The death toll rose to 78 and over three lakh people continue to reel under the deluge.
The Commission issued notices to the Assam government's chief secretary and the superintendent of police of Cachar, seeking a detailed report on it in two weeks.
The state government has increased the ex gratia assistance for families of flood victims to Rs 9 lakh each and eased the norms for claiming the compensation.
