Among the ruling Mahayuti alliance, the BJP is contesting 11 seats, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena four, and the NCP, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, two.
The Election Commission of India has announced elections for 17 local body constituencies of the Maharashtra Legislative Council and June 1, 2026, is the last date for filing nominations.
An NCP leader said that Ajit Pawar had earlier engaged with Bangalore-based Design Box, headed by Naresh Arora but the party could not bear the charges of the agency after Ajit Pawar’s demise.
Sources said the party will also field a candidate in a bypoll and that Mahayuti is likely to secure up to nine of 10 seats, with voting scheduled for May 12.
