Mangan District Collector Anant Jain said the landslides occurred along the crucial Chungthang-Lachen route on Tuesday night, leaving tourists headed for Lachen stuck midway.
Since National Highway 10 was blocked, Sikkim was relying on National Highway 717A for the movement of goods vehicles. But that alternative route was also closed in the afternoon.
It identified two key locations at depths of 0.76 mtr and 0.015 mtr readings that were later confirmed human remains, guiding recovery teams with precision, said CEO Satyabarata Satapathy.
Roadblocks have been reported along the 52-km highway stretch, which connects Sevoke in West Bengal with Rangpo in Sikkim, causing inconvenience to travellers.
