Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal's house which is located at Dibrugarh in Upper Assam came under attack yesterday night as protestors pelted stones at his house.
Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal was stranded at the Guwahati airport for a long time due to protests.
Sarbananda Sonowal, who landed in the state capital from Tezpur, was stranded at the VIP lounge of the airport, as his convoy could not roll out due to the massive protest.
In Guwahati, unknown protestors put up posters with messages against the Bill outside the private residences of the CM’s media advisor Hrishikesh Goswami.
The AGP, which was born out of the six-year-long anti-immigrants’ agitation (Assam Agitation) of early 1980s, is facing criticism from both within and outside.
The meetings were attended by chief ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya Sarbananda Sonowal, Pema Khandu and Conrad Sangma respectively.
Unlike the ruling BJP in Arunachal which is “unequivocally opposed” to the bill, the Sarbananda Sonowal government is toeing the Centre’s line.
The refinery is a fruit of the historic Assam Accord of 1985 signed between All Assam Students’ Union and the Centre at the end of the six-year-long bloody anti-immigrants' agitation.
Shah gave the assurance when Sonowal called on him here, a release issued by the Assam government said.
Sarbananda Sonowal said India under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi was committed to enhance bilateral relations.
Sonowal gave the assurance when representatives of various Bengali organisations in Assam called on him to apprise him about their grievances, a government release said.
The final NRC will be published on Saturday in Assam, the only state in the country where it is being updated after 1951.
Sonowal also said the exclusion of anyone's name does not mean that he or she has become a foreigner as such a decision can be taken only by a tribunal after following the proper legal process.

Sarbananda Sonowal said the Assam government will ensure peaceful publication of the NRC on August 31 as mandated by the SC.
Sarbananda Sonowal expressed optimism that the NRC would be a historic document which would neither include the name of any foreigner nor exclude any genuine Indian citizen.
