With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approaching, the probe into alleged donation irregularities at the Ayodhya Ram temple could become a major political issue and influence election narratives.

The raid to recover the money was conducted by Ayodhya Police at the residence of Lavkush Mishra, in the presence of Shree Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai.

He alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government's silence on the issue was suspicious and said the court should take cognisance of the matter.

According to sources, the SIT first sought details of the investigation conducted so far from Champat Rai on Monday. Investigators then questioned each suspect individually behind closed doors.

All the three complainants sought legal action against those found responsible for misappropriation of funds.
