The patients who consumed food from Al-Reem Kuzhimandhi restaurant in Kaloor had sought treatment for food poisoning on July 13 and were admitted to a hospital in Kochi.
The total number of Shigella cases reported in Kerala during the month of June has climbed to 140. The cumulative tally for 2026 has reached 216 confirmed infections.
Malappuram reported three new cases, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, and Kozhikode reported two cases each, while Ernakulam and Kannur reported one case each, bringing the total to 91 Shigella cases.
Kozhikode district has become the focal point of Kerala’s disease surveillance efforts, with authorities simultaneously monitoring shigellosis, Nipah virus, and now malaria.
He was admitted on June 12 after developing high fever and acute diarrhoea. Despite receiving intensive care, his health deteriorated and died of the infection.
