While a section of political leaders view the resignation as a part of pressure tactics, the BJP leadership has already started conciliatory efforts to persuade her to withdraw her resignation.
Sreelekha's tenure was plagued by serial administrative squabbles, notably the controversial closure of the dry waste segregation hub in front of the Sasthamangalam health circle office.
The issue gained public attention when videos of Sreelekha having a stiff conversation with BJP state vice-president K Soman outside the hotel surfaced in the media.
In a release issued on Friday, the state BJP said Sreelekha will launch a wall-writing programme in Vattiyoorkavu, a traditional curtain-raiser to Kerala’s election season.
The swift outreach by the party’s top state leadership is widely seen as sealing her likely candidature from Vattiyoorkavu, which includes the Sasthamangalam ward she currently represents.
