India on Saturday saw another record spike of 14,516 new COVID-19 cases in a single-day, pushing the tally to 3,95,048, while the death toll rose to 12,948 with 375 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
The number of recoveries continued to surge with 2,13,830 patients cured so far, while there are 1,68,269 active cases, according to the updated official figures at 8 am.
One patient has migrated.
"Thus, around 54.12 per cent of the patients have recovered so far," an official said.
The total number of confirmed cases includes foreigners.
India registered over 10,000 cases for the ninth day in a row.
The country has witnessed a surge of over two lakh infections from June 1 till 20 with Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh among the top five states that have seen a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases.

Punjab on Saturday reported six fatalities due to coronavirus and 120 fresh cases, officials said. The death toll in the state now is 98 with the coronavirus tally reaching 3,952. Four deaths were reported in Amritsar and one each in Ludhiana and Kapurthala, according to a medical bulletin.

With 27 new cases, Tripura's COVID-19 tally rose to 1,186, nearly two months after the state was declared coronavirus free by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, officials said on Saturday. Returnees from other states have also contributed to the spurt in the coronavirus cases in Tripura, they said.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Chhattisgarh increased to 2,076 after 49 people, including four ITBP and three CRPF troopers, tested positive for novel coronavirus on Saturday, a health official said. An elderly COVID-19 patient died due to comorbidity at a hospital here, taking the number of coronavirus fatalities in the state to 11, he said.

An eerie silence enveloped the bustling streets of Chennai on Friday, the first day of yet another lockdown to contain Covid, which has been spreading like wildfire. In a single day, the city police seized around 2,000 vehicles, collected fine and booked the violators. Over the empty roads though, flights continued to ferry travellers in and out of the city.
Fresh cases on Friday touched 2,115, taking the Statewide tally to 54,449. Even as the State capital reported 1,322 cases, the city and three other districts went into a lockdown in a bid to contain the spread of the virus.

The World Health Organization has warned that the Covid-19 pandemic is entering a "new and dangerous" phase. Thursday saw the most cases in a single day reported to the WHO. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the day had seen 150,000 new cases with half of those coming from the Americas and large numbers also from the Middle East and South Asia, the BBC reported. He said the virus was still spreading fast and the pandemic accelerating.
