MUMBAI: Eicher Trucks and Buses, part of VE Commercial Vehicles today announced its foray into sub-five tonne category of commercial vehicles with the launch of Eicher Pro 1049, priced up to Rs 8 lakh.
"With the launch of Eicher Pro 1049 from our Pithampur plant, we plan to strengthen or leadership in the light and medium duty (LMD) segment and is aligned with the company's commitment to usher in the future of Indian trucking with next generation products and technologies," VE Commercial Vehicles Senior Vice President Shyam Maller told reporters here.
The company has fixed price of around Rs 7 lakh for BS III and around Rs 8 lakh for BS IV variant, Mallar said.
This compact fuel efficient mini truck has been designed to cater to the last mile distribution in urban, semi urban and rural areas across the country.
LMD segment in commercial industry has a great potential to grow as it addresses the critical last mile connectivity and distribution network in rural, semi-urban and urban areas. In 2015, market size of 3.5 tonnes to 5 tonnes LMD segment stands at 8,080 units and the growth in this segment looks very promising, he added.
