BENGALURU: The MG Road Metro station entrance wall that leads to Church Street is getting a makeover thanks to Harshvardhan Kadam and his team.

The idea, Harshvardhan says is to spread strong messages about how art affects the environment and how powerful it is.  At Church Street, the art depicts a narrative of five children beautifully painted. Talking about the idea, Harshvardhan says, he wants to convert that space into something happy and also be abstract at it.
“I wanted to get in colourful characters, strong aesthetical elements which communicates with the commuters and spread joy and enthusiasm in their minds. These colours must have the ability to dispel the depressive atmosphere around.” He adds that looking at the art would make people nostalgic about their childhood.

“We all have memories of eating chocolates under the bed, reading books on the loft. Being lost in their own indulgences and dreams is what these kids would signify,” he says about his art work. The idea behind showcasing these street art in public places, especially metro stations is to attract the maximum footfall. There is also a lot of space for interaction and understand the art in a philosophical way. “There might be many people around us who may be a little low in their lives. These murals act as medicine and help people to find something positive and soothe their thoughts,” he says.

Kadam is painting the wall as part of the St+at Festival organised by the Shrishti School of Design, Asian Paints and Art in Transit in collaboration with BMRCL (Bengaluru Metro rail Corporation) that sees 16 artists from around the country and world coming together to paint the city’s walls.
