BENGALURU: Four PhD students of a CSIR institute in the city have filed a case of sexual harassment against a senior faculty member on Friday. A police officer at Marathahalli police station said they have received a complaint and filed a case of sexual harassment at the workplace.

A senior police officer said, “The students approached me with written complaints and I have ordered the jurisdictional DCP to register an FIR for further action.”V S Ugrappa, MLC and chairman of the Expert Committee on Prevention of Atrocities and Sexual Violence Against Women and Children, told Express, “The students approached me on Thursday through a former chief secretary. They explained to me about the sexual harassment they had been facing from one of the co-ordinators at the institute over the last few months. They told me that they had mailed a complaint to the Prime Minister’s Office explaining about the problems they are facing at the workplace. Since they did not get any response, they approached the committee.

“The four had written separate complaints and I took up the matter with the city police commissioner who promptly directed a senior jurisdictional police officer to take action,” he added.
Express tried contacting the director of the CSIR institute, but the phone calls were not answered.
