BANGALORE: There is a demand for over one lakh residential sites in and around Bangalore city, said housing minister V Somanna.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Somanna said that as per the demand survey conducted by the housing department, there is a huge demand for residential sites in Bangalore and surrounding places.

Accordingly, the state government is planning to acquire about 4-5 thousand acres of land in areas surrounding Bangalore to develop residential layouts through the Karnataka Housing Board, Somanna said.

The new layouts will come up near Bidadi,  Kengeri, Tavarekere, Yelahanka. The KHB has  already identified 500 acres at Bidadi.

Apart from this, KHB will develop layouts in all taluka and district headquarters depending on the demand, the minister added.

He said that the department was mulling to  provide ownership title to 16 lakh beneficiaries of Ashraya scheme, if they cleared the loans. “Apart from giving  ownership title, the government will also waive interest as one time settlement,” he added.

To a question, Somanna said that steps will be taken to provide infrastructure facilities in Ashraya colonies in association with the social welfare department.
