BANGALORE: Bangalore got its very own metro as Union Minister for Urban Development Kamal Nath flagged off the inaugural ride of Namma Metro from M G Road to Byappanahalli on Thursday.

BJP leader Arun Jaitley, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister for Corporate Affairs Veerappa Moily and Home Minister R Ashok inaugurated the M G Road station and took the first train to Byappanahalli and back.

“I would compare the run to a smooth rush-hour ride in Tokyo,” said Akitaka Saiki, Japan’s Ambassador to India. The decorated train was brought to Platform 1 of the M G Road station by Rashmi, a woman driver. Inaugural plaques of stations along Reach 1 were unveiled.
