Love your parents and please take care of them, chirped little Keshav Pandey in an earnest voice. Clutching his handmade dolls, the three-year-old brought to life the mythological tale of Shravan, a devoted son who strived hard to fulfil his parents’ last wishes. His heart-rending narration was met with encouraging applause at the Kumara Rajah Mutthiah Hall.
Brimming with confidence and stumping the judges with their oratorical skills and passion for dance, these tiny tots showcased their talent with finesse at the 13th edition of ‘Sishu Utsav-Festival of Children’, an inter-school cultural fest hosted by Kumara Rani’s Chettinad Vidyalaya for children under five years of age.
The event that saw participation from 47 schools across the city, with nearly 600 participants, was replete with gummy smiles, adorable antics, and story telling sessions that kept the audience entertained to the hilt.
The drawing competition for UKG children with the theme ‘The Thirsty Crow’ and the ‘Colours of Imagination’ theme for children belonging to LKG Classes witnessed the aspiring artists unleash their creativity.
M Ajay, an LKG student from MCC Matriculation School won the first prize for the colouring the picture event, while Sanjuktha Chanda of Maharishi Vidyamandir bagged the first prize in the UKG Class category.
This was followed by the group action song and fancy dress competitions for both the LKG and UKG Classes. The group action song event witnessed the enthusiastic participants croon rhymes and sway to the beats with their nimble footwork.PSBB Senior Secondary School KK Nagar, was placed first in the event, while the runners-up were Vellamal Matriculation School, TS Krishna Nagar and Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Chetpet and SBOA School and Junior College respectively.
The fancy dress competition saw tiny tots assume innovative characters and sashay across the room in colourful attire. The first place went to Naisha Vikram, a UKG student of Chinmaya Vidyalaya. Pari, an LKG student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir emerged triumphant for her engaging performance as a ‘smart classroom’.
R Thamana of DAV Nursery School Gopalapuram was adjudged winner for her story ‘Three Little Butterflies’ in the story telling event. The highlight of the evening, undoubtedly was the group dance with special performances ranging from folk, Indian classical to jazz. PSBB Millennium School was placed first in the group dance event.
Maharishi Vidya Mandir clinched the winner’s trophy, while PSBB Millennium School emerged as runners up.
The event was inaugurated by Dr Meena Muttiah, who also gave away the prizes to the proud winners. The school principal Amutha Lakshmi and headmistress Lakshmi Ashok presided over the function.
