BANGALORE: If spelling big words was not hard enough, a Bangalore-based engineer mastered spelling backwards to make his way into the Guinness Book of Records.
Shishir Hathwar, an engineer with Bharat Electronics, got his moment of fame with the timing of 1 minutes and 22.53 seconds on November 13, 2010.
According to the rules, a contestant would have to spell 50 words backwards where a list of 50 words must be read to the speller one by one and he or she must spell them back to the reader.
To make the task difficult, the list did not contain any word less than six letters and included 15 eight-letter words, 15 seven-letter words and 20 six-letter words. The earlier record was 1 min 40.14 sec held by Job Pottas (India) who achieved this record feat at the Press Club, Ernakulam, Kerala.
