Walk into Music Academy in the city on Independence Day to witness hundreds of quiz enthusiasts of all ages make notes or just watch the action with full concentration. Yes, it’s time for the legendary Landmark Quiz again!
Landmark Quiz is not only the biggest open quiz but also the most popular one. Started in 1992 in Chennai, the quiz is now conducted in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Hyderabad. The Chennai round of the contest will take place on August 15 followed by the national finals.
According to quiz master Navin Jayakumar, the quiz this year promises more excitement. “We have been doing the quiz for a long time now. Last year a man told me that he attended one of the first editions of the quiz and now his son is attending it. There is a huge surprise waiting for the audience this year in relation to this phenomenon,” he said.
There will be a live webcast on the Landmark website and live tweeting by the audience, which was introduced last year. “Last year, Anna Hazare was arrested on the same day of the quiz and after Anna, Landmark Quiz was trending the most,” exclaimed Navin.
The event will see people from all over India and a few teams from abroad take part. There are a couple of quizzers, Navin said, who are from the US. “They are here not just for the quiz but I am sure the vacation dates were altered keeping the quiz in mind as well,” he said.
With over 60 teams waitlisted, Navin expects around 600 teams this time.
The quiz has prizes for the best school, college and corporate teams, and a prize for the most humorous team name.
