Stay on collection of toll on BIA road vacated

Express News Service

The High Court on Thursday vacated the stay on the collection of toll on NH-7 (Bangalore-Bellary Road) leading to the Bangalore International Airport following an appeal filed by Navayuga Devanahalli Tollway Private Limited (NDTPL) challenging the Devanahalli court’s order.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the NDTPL had started collecting toll from April 5, 2011, but the Bangalore Tourist and Taxi Owners’ Association (BTTOA) and other organisations had staged protests stating that it would be a financial burden for them as they conduct multiple trips to the airport everyday.

After the Government’s intervention, NHAI and NDTPL had stopped collecting the toll.

Later, they challenged it before the Devanahalli court.

Then, NHAI and NDTPL challenged the Devanahalli court’s order before the High Court.

Justice Ravi V Malimath vacated the stay and disposed of the petition

When contacted, a Navayuga Constructions Toll official said that they would begin the toll collection on Friday as and when they receive the order copy from the court.

“Temporary toll booths are already in place for collection of toll.

We will be collecting toll while vehicles come out of the airport and head towards the city.

The construction of six toll booths, among the 12 new set of booths, coming up before the trumpet interchange is yet to be completed,” he said.
