A team of Bangalore University (BU) officials will meet Ramanagaram Deputy Commissioner Sriram Reddy on Monday to expedite the process of handing over land for the construction of a new postgraduate centre.

Syndicate members T H Srinivasaiah, C K Jagdish Prasad, University Engineer N Putta Swamy, BU Coordinator S Vageesh and others, all members of the Syndicate Sub-Committee constituted to look into the issue will visit Ramanagaram to finalise the four-year-old proposal for a PG centre intended to offer specialised courses.

“After discussions with the district administration, zilla panchayat and the Revenue Department in 2008, the proposal for setting up a PG centre in Ramangaram was finalised. However, there has been no further action from your end. Even MLC E Krishnappa enquired about this recently in a Zero Hour discussion and the university had to submit an incomplete answer,” Vageesh wrote to Reddy last week.

Survey Numbers 166 and 51 in Harisandra, 257 in Subbanahalli and 53 in Bommachannahalli in Ramanagaram district have been identified for the new PG centre.

Despite these details, Srinivasaiah said there was little clarity about the proposal.

“We are given to understand that more than 100 acres of land has been identified, but it has not been handed over the the university till date. We hope to get a clear picture after the meeting,” he said.

The proposed Ramanagaram PG Centre comes at a time when the university is yet to complete the construction of the Kolar PG Centre. After a new work order worth `84 lakh was issued to the contractor in February this year, only the Administrative Block has been completed.

“The construction of the classroom blocks will also be completed soon,” Srinivasaiah said.
