Free Dialysis Centre now open to public

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Dialysis Centre was formally opened to the public on Wednesday by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar. The centre will offer free dialysis to people below the poverty line. Others will be charged `500.

“This is the first dialysis centre in the country to offer free services. We often hear of projects under the MLA funds scheme running into lakhs, but this centre has been developed at a cost of crores. The government is ready to extend full support to the centre,” Shettar said.

As much as `2.1 crore has been sourced from Minister for Law S Suresh Kumar’s Rajajinagar constituency funds to build the centre on BBMP health centre premises. It is located near Old Police Station Circle, 9th Main, Rajajinagar II Block.

The centre will be equipped with nine dialysis machines that can offer 18 dialyses a day. Two four-hour dialysis procedures will be done during the day. There are plans to introduce night dialysis.

MLC Ramachandra Gowda said he would donate `50,000 every month to the centre. 

Suresh Kumar, Deputy CM R Ashok, Health Minister Aravind Limbavali, BBMP Education Standing Committee member M G Jayarathna and Centre Project Director D G Badrinath were present in the occasion.
