Plaint filed in wrong blood group case

A complaint was filed against Dr Suresh and lab technician Bhagyalakshmi of K C General Hospital by the relatives of the woman who died after she was allegedly administered the wrong blood group. Police have registered a case of 304 A (Causing death by negligence). An autopsy has been conducted and reports are awaited.

The state’s deputy director (blood safety) Dr H N Ravindra told Express: “Those with O+ blood are universal donors and AB+ are universal acceptors. But these things have been stopped keeping safety in mind, and we give everyone their own blood group. If a patient with O+ blood is given B+, death is certain.’’

Medical superintendent at K C General Hpspital, Chandra Prabha said that she will look into the case details and will initiate a departmental inquiry. “Anyone found guilty will be punished,’’ she said.

Health Director Dhanya Kumar said the department will look into the case details and take action against those found guilty. The state Drugs Controller has also ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Upset Over Wedding Plans, Girl Ends Life

Upset over constant pressure from her family members to get married, a 22-year-old engineering student committed suicide by consuming poison at her home in Nanjarasappa Layout on Wednesday night. The deceased Bharathi  was the daughter of Gopal Reddy.

Police said the incident took place in the midnight when she went to her room after dinner. She had consumed poison and slept. Early on Thursday, Gopal went to call her for a morning walk and found her dead.

She had recorded a message on her mobile phone before she committed suicide and also left a suicide note apologising to her father and younger brother Manju for ending her life.

Her family said they had asked her to get married but she was not interested in a proposed alliance, who is said to be her maternal uncle, the police said.
