BANGALORE: Two students from the city have secured top marks in the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) whose results were announced on Wednesday. The test by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is the first level of chartered accountancy (CA) exams.

Out of 200 marks, Deepali R Nayak from Seshadripuram College, Yelahanka, scored 176 and Varun Behroonani from Vidyaniketan School, Hebbal, secured 175, placing them among the toppers. They were coached by city-based commerce institute K2 Learning. “I started preparations after second PUC in March this year. I studied commerce and CA is the highest profession in this field,” Deepali said.

For Varun, the dream of becoming a CA is the result of his inclination towards logic. “I was never fond of theory-based subjects. Accounts and mathematics always interested me,” said Varun, who prepared for a little over two months.

Students who have cleared CPT will go on to join integrated professional competence courses.

After clearing them, they will study the final course to acquire membership in ICAI to become chartered accountants.
