Climate Change Workshop in Jagannath Vidyalaya

CHENNAI: Due to the increasing intensity and frequency of climate change induced disasters such as cyclones, floods and drought, the Department of Applied Geology, School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Madras, decided to conduct scientific poster competition for school students on the theme of global climate change to increase awareness.

Jagannath Vidyalaya was among the first ones to show interest in the venture. The team from University of Madras headed by Dr R R Krishnamurthy, associate professor, Department of Applied Geology, conducted an interactive session on November 6. Motivated by the talk, the poster making competition held a week later saw all students from Classes 9, 10 and 11 participate.

A certificate of merit and a prize for the best poster will be given during the inauguration of the national conference on climate change impacts and coastal areas management scheduled to be held on February 27 and 28 at the University of Madras.
