BENGALURU: At a time when cities are increasingly becoming unsafe, many are finding the need to take precautions at an individual level. Post the recent shocking molestation incident in the city, where a woman was allegedly forced to strip and pose for pictures by a cab driver, a lot of awareness programmes are being conducted. One such organisation, Being Social - Ek Nayi Shuruaat, is going to conduct a self-defence workshop for women. In two hours, trainers from Yodha School of Martial Arts will teach some basic techniques that can come in handy in emergency situations.

Praveen Shukla, co-founder of Being Social, says these self-defence techniques can be learnt by anyone and doesn’t need regular practice. “Through this, anyone will know how to protect oneself as well as protect others. For example, if someone is attacking from the front, we can teach them to put two fingers in the eyes and nose,” a volunteer said. The free workshop will be conducted between 5 pm and 7 pm on Sunday at Forum Neighbourhood Mall in Whitefield.
