BENGALURU: A simple complaint about a broken snow globe spirals into a hilarious war of letters between two actors in Hate Mail, a play directed by Deeban Chakravarthy to be staged this weekend. Preston (Mohan Ram) is a quintessential rich brat going through an identity crisis and happens to meet his match in Dahila (Kavya Srinivasan), who is a purebred New York Woman. What prevails is total mayhem and a laugh riot.

The entire play is written in the form of letters that Preston and Dahlia – two whimsical characters who have nothing in common – exchange over the years. While they initially had to spend several hours rehearsing, for their tenth show to be staged this weekend, Deeban says the practice has been minimal, as are the sets.

“We’re focusing on the story and don’t want to divert attention from it,” Deeban says referring to the 90-minute play, adding that this meant that the play didn’t require a backstage team. While Kavya plays a ‘strong independent firebrand of a woman’, Dahila, who is outspoken and follows on her convictions, Mohan plays a contrasting character, Preston. “The play has only two characters and the challenge is to engage the audience for a full 90 minutes. The two characters get little face time, so to bring out the chemistry between them by using only monologues required thought,” he says.

The play will be performed at Atta Galata, Koramangala. Tickets: Rs 250
