BENGALURU: A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and six vehicles, including two four-wheelers, were damaged when the driver of a BMTC Volvo bus lost control over his vehicle and rammed them on Hebbal flyover in the city on Monday morning.

The bus was proceeding to HSR Layout from Kempegowda International Airport. But for the slow-moving traffic on the flyover, it would have been a tragedy. The bus came to a halt after one of the damaged cars stopped horizontally in front of it. A video of the accident has gone viral.

The injured motorcyclist has been identified as Akash Patil, 27. He fractured his leg in the accident and is being treated in a private hospital at Hebbal. He was going to RT Nagar from Yelahanka.

The impact of the accident was such that the motorcycles that were hit by the bus fell after ramming the left wall of the flyover. Eyewitnesses said the motorcyclists should consider themselves lucky as the bus did not veer off to the left side of the flyover. Even those in the four-wheelers escaped without any injuries.

The police suspect that the driver must have pressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brakes. Malfunction in the braking system of the bus is also being looked into, they said.

Hebbal traffic police have registered an FIR against the driver and seized the bus.

Meanwhile, a press release from the BMTC said that an accident involving bus No KA-57-F-1797 of Depot 25 occurred near the Esteem Mall. Six vehicles were damaged in the accident, the press release added.

BMTC chief traffic manager GT Prabhakar Reddy told TNIE that the driver had an accident-free 13-year service record. However, the dashcam revealed that the driver was driving the bus in a negligent manner, which led to the accident. Action will be initiated against him, he said.
