BENGALURU: A 19-year-old woman was found murdered at a serviced apartment in Indiranagar on Tuesday.
The assailant is suspected to be her boyfriend, who has been living with her in the apartment since Saturday. Her body bore multiple stab injuries. The police have launched a manhunt for the killer.
The deceased has been identified as Maya Gogoi Deka of Guwahati in Assam. She moved to Bengaluru a year ago and worked with a private company. She lived near Hoodi Metro Station with her elder sister.
The suspect, Aarav Hanoy, 21, a resident of HSR Layout and native of Kannur in Kerala, worked as a counselling executive with a private company in HSR Layout. The murder took place at The Royal Livings apartment in Indiranagar, I Stage.
Suspect stabbed Maya multiple times, shows probe
Police said the murder came to light around 12.30 pm on Tuesday when the apartment staff knocked on the door as the occupants were supposed to check out that day. As there was no response, they opened the door with a spare key and found Maya lying dead naked on the bed.
Investigations revealed that the couple booked the apartment on Saturday and checked in at 12.30 pm. The suspect allegedly stabbed Maya multiple times in the chest, abdomen and other parts of her body. The CCTV footage revealed that he escaped from the apartment around 8.20 am on Tuesday. The police believe that the murder took place on Monday night.
The police suspect that the two were in a relationship for six months. Even Maya’s sister told police that she knew Hanoy. Maya’s mobile phone has been recovered from the apartment. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) D Devaraja told reporters that it appears to be a pre-planned murder. “Investigations revealed that the suspect had a knife in his bag and had ordered a nylon rope through an online platform after checking in,” he said. The police have registered a murder case based on a complaint by the apartment owner.
