BENGALURU: A 29-year-old woman ended her life by hanging from a ceiling hook at her house after her 11-month-old son, who accidentally fell into a bucket containing water, died in Chandra Layout police limits on Wednesday.
The incident came to light after her husband returned home from office around 6.30 pm. The deceased have been identified as Pratibha Wali and her son Agasthya.
Pratibha, an employee of a software company near Silk Board, worked from home, while her husband S Mahantesh Wali, 32, is a software engineer with a private company at Peenya, II Stage.
In a note, Pratibha blamed herself for the death of Agasthya. She had left him inside the house and had gone to the terrace to collect the clothes put to dry there.
In his complaint, Mahantesh stated that he has been living with his wife and son in a rented house at Byraveshwaranagar on Nagarabhavi Main Road for the past four years. He left for his office around 9 am while his wife and son were at home.
After returning home in the evening, he found the front door locked from inside.When Prathiba did not respond to his calls to open the door, Mahantesh used the key, which they usually keep near a window, to enter the house.
In the bedroom, he saw Prathiba hanging from the ceiling hook and Agasthya’s body on the bed. Prathiba used a saree to hang from the ceiling hook. Mahantesh found the note in English by Prathiba asking him to forgive her for their son’s death.
An empty strip of tablets was found in the room. Pratibha is said to have taken 15 paracetamol tablets and slashed her left wrist in an attempt to end her life before hanging from the ceiling hook.
Chandra Layout police have registered a case of unnatural death. Further investigations are on.
