CUTTACK: A 26-year-old woman died allegedly after falling from the terrace of her rented accommodation at Sankarpur Barik Sahi within Badambadi police limits late on Tuesday night.

Police identified the deceased as Barsha Tripathy of Manda Sahi in Jagatsinghpur district.

Preliminary investigation revealed Barsha worked part-time at a university here and was simultaneously preparing for competitive examinations.

The incident occurred at around 11.30 pm while she was on the terrace of the three-storey building, talking to someone over phone. On being informed, police reached the spot and rushed the woman to SCB Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared her dead. The woman’s neighbours are being questioned, said a senior police officer.

He said the terrace had no parapet. The mobile phone of the deceased has been seized. Probe is underway.

Meanwhile, Barsha’s family lodged a complaint with police alleging foul play. Her uncle alleged his niece was pushed off the terrace by her ex-roommate. He urged police to conduct a thorough investigation.
