CUTTACK: A Plus III final-year student of Udayanath Autonomous College was found hanging in her hostel room on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased, a 20-year-old woman, was a native of Mahakalpada in Kendrapara district. Sources said she was alone in her room as her roommate had gone to celebrate Raksha Bandhan with her family. However, when her roommate returned around 4 pm, she found the room locked from the inside. Despite knocking the door several times, there was no response following which she informed the matter to the hostel administration.
Olatpur police were alerted who then reached the hostel and broke open the room’s door only to find the woman hanging. Cuttack Sadar SDPO Bijay Kumar Mallik said they have informed the matter to the deceased’s parents. “Investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he added.
