BHUBANESWAR: The BMC has planned to install sensors in major drains across the city to strengthen desilting operations and improve drainage management.

BMC commissioner Chanchal Rana said the sensors will help assess blockages and measure silt accumulation inside drains, enabling authorities to monitor desilting work more effectively.

The civic body has also planned to establish an organic waste processing plant in the city. The facility will convert biodegradable waste, including food scraps, agricultural residues and garden waste, into useful resources such as biogas and organic fertiliser. The meeting also decided to provide Rs 5 lakh grant each to all medical units under the BMC to strengthen healthcare services.
