CHENNAI: Vadapalani’s 36-year-old theatre, Kamala, is now all set to give you a brand new movie-watching experience.
After catering to fi lm buffs for over three decades, this theatre is also rapidly catching up to provide the city with the urbane, fast-paced and versatile movie-watching experience.
After renovation for about three months, the theatre will now function as a multiplex (two halls) equipped with the latest technology, style and security.
Offi cially opening up the theatre, Nagu Chidambaram, one of the directors said, “You will see nothing of the old form in the theatre, except its name. We split the 1000 seater into two halls now, one with a seating capacity of 600 and the other, with 366. Our biggest achievement is however that we gave a brand new avatar to the theatre, in just 100 days; from scratch to now.” The whole theatre is now centrally air conditioned, has a 4 way sound system, has an extra rubbered granite fl ooring (to allow friction and reduce slipperiness) till the end of the aisle and is acoustically treated, right from the fl oor to the walls and the ceiling. “For this purpose, we don’t have a door right at the end of the auditorium. We have not increased the ticket rates much. While earlier it was priced between Rs 40 to 50 previously, it would be priced between Rs 65 to 90 now,” added Nagu. The digital sound comes with 12 on-stage JBL audio system and 18 Motorola surround sound system.
Also, the food centers will be managed by experienced F&B professionals.
In the toilets, someone to ensure that no water is spilled through the show timings, will be assigned.
For VN Chidambaram, Chairman, the theatre started functioning on a warm note, amidst friends, wellwishers and family.
