CHENNAI: A police team from the UK has found that British national Patrick Mathews sexually abused at least nine students and former pupils of St George’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School here.

The investigating team led by detective inspector Mark Little conducted a probe into the abuse of students by 62-year-old Mathews who worked as a volunteer at St George’s between 2003 and 2006. “We spoke to 14 children and 16 adults. Our investigations revealed that at least nine students of the school were subjected to various kinds of sexual abuse in the school’s boarding home by Mathews while he was a volunteer at Batemans Trust,” Little said further inquiries would now be conducted in the UK before ‘a file of evidence’ was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service. On the involvement of Indians in the incident, Little told The New Indian Express: “Our entire investigation focused on Mathew Patrick and as part of the probe we made enquiries with the school authorities and the people who helped him at his house in Mahabalipuram.”
