According to Thaymnar, supreme peace, great ananda, and ultimate happines — all are found in divinity. Here are some of the preachings of Thaymanar.
Our paramount duty
Our goal in life is to make progress in spirituality which is truly beneficial to us. Instead of wasting our precious time in worthless chit-chatting and accumulating money, the time available is to be fully utilised to obtain lasting benefits to oneself. What we all need to carry on with daily life is a morsel of food, a piece of cloth to cover the body and a roof over our head.
That is all, and yet we toil hard to earn more money to provide more comforts to the body. As a result, no time is left for spirituality. We are dazzled by riches, power and fame and covet them. Will worldly aspects give real happiness? These are like a ball of husk. We think it is sweet and crave for it and feel miserable if we fail to get it. On the other hand, if we succeed in getting it we will still be miserable as the husk gets stuck in the throat causing irritation and discomfort. So, utilise the time available for scriptural practices by indulging in worship, prayer, reading spiritual texts, meditation and satsang.
Seeking divine grace
We are required to attend to both worldly life and spiritual practices (sadhana). Make it a habit to do sadhana first. Rest of the time can be spent for worldly pleasures. Sadhana must have both viveka (discrimination) and Vairagya (detachment). Viveka is the ability to discriminate between the real and false. Vairagya is the attitude which enables us to give up the unreal and realise the real. Due to attachment, even a small event in magnified into a Himalayan disaster.
After listening to discourses, give up attachment and stop worrying about ordinary events. We put in all efforts for success in worldly life, first to get education, then to obtain a job, marry, have children and so on. We are always dreaming of obtaining happiness in the future. Thus, the whole life is spent in this unending chase and what we get from all this is old age, senility, disease and finally, death. Give importance to sadhana and listen to spiritual mentors whole-heartedly and seek his divine grace to realise yourself and enjoy everlasting happiness.
Getting close to the almighty
There is only one atman, that resides in god and also in us. When we get close to god through bhajans, we realise their Nija-swaroop or true state which leads to realising our true state. In genuine meditation, you experience uninterrupted bliss. Experiencing the bliss of atman is the way to please Sadguru.
