IIT Madras workshop on cinema from Friday

IIT Madras is conducting a workshop on ‘Imaging Cinema 2012: Screenwriting and Film Direction’ from June 1 to 10, 2012. The inauguration was held on Thursday (May 31).

The 2012 edition has an interesting lineup of speakers with a perfect blend of theory and practical knowledge about films.

The framework of the course has been designed by  Atul Tiwari (Mission Kashmir, Dasavatharam and currently  working on Viswaroopam with Kamal Haasan) and K Hariharan, director of the LV Prasad Institute of Film and Television.

The workshop will have interactive sessions with filmmakers and technicians from the industry like Habib Faisal, cinematographer Ravi K Chandran, Rohan Sippy, Shriram Raghavan, Shridhar Raghavan, writers Suresh and Bala (SuBa) and editor Anthony, filmmaker Thiagarajan Kumararaja and Sudhish Kamath, film critic and writer-director.

The first part will be a film appreciation module, the second will look into film execution, focusing on the mechanics of filmmaking such as lighting, sound and camera, and the third and most defining part is the scriptwriting section, where participants will first work in groups on existing scripts to understand the process  of construction.
