CHENNAI: Police are on the lookout for ex-PMK councillor Manivannan in connection with the murder of a youth, at Abhiramapuram on Wednesday.

Bilal of Pillayar Koil Thottam in Mylapore, was hacked to death and his body found on Singeri Mutt Road, near the MRTS railway station in Mandaveli around 9 pm.

Police suspect the involvement of Manivannan in the murder as Bilal was in love with his daughter Deepa (name changed) and had eloped with her on December 2 last year. Manivannan was arrested for attempt to murder after he stabbed Bilal’s brother Ahmed Basha during a counselling session held for both the families by the police. DCP (Triplicane) T K Pugalenthi told Express that the couple was produced before a court on December 6. The girl was sent along with her parents. “But, they continued to be in touch over the cell phone,” he said.

On learning about Deepa’s continuing relationship with Bilal, Manivannan, who was released on bail on December 24, warned his daughter to severe her ties with the youth, but in vain. Cops suspect Manivannan of engaging his henchmen to kill the youth. Special teams have launched a search for the ex-councillor. The whereabouts of his daughter are also not known, the official said.
