Are you someone planning to apply for the MBA and MCA courses in the University of Madras? If yes, then ensure you take the upcoming TANCET examination conducted by the Anna University.

Given the issues that had cropped up in last few years, the University of Madras has come out with a clear-cut statement that any one wishing to study for the two sought-after courses have to take up TANCET and quote the score when they apply to the varsity.

But why this statement suddenly? Sources in the University said the time gap between the notification for TANCET, issued by the Anna University, and the admission notification for the courses at the University of Madras, is at the heart of the problem.

“The admission notification is issued sometime in mid-March. By that time, the TANCET exam would be over,” points out an official at the  University of Madras. As the admission notice comes at least a week after the examination, the varsity over the last few years had faced questions from students.

“Some come here after seeing the notification and shout at us, stating that they did not know TANCET scores were compulsory. This continued to happen for some years. So we started pasting the caution notice from last year onward,” said one official at the Students Grievance Redressal Cell on the campus.

Part of the problem was that among thousands who apply for the courses, there were those from remote rural areas where knowledge of such procedures are still not wide spread. “Though TANCET has been in vogue for years now, there are still people who do not think it is compulsory,” an official said.
