CHENNAI: The swanky Amma Arangam at Shenoy Nagar would now be rented out for commercial use, after the Corporation Council adopted a resolution on this.

The `17.84-crore complex is built on an area of 12,446.35 sq m and has a basement that could park nearly 100 cars, an auditorium at the ground-level that could seat 896 people and a first floor community centre with facilities to prepare food. “The auditorium will serve the high income groups in the city and the Corporation stands to earn revenue by renting it out,” said Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy.

Accordingly, the rates for renting the auditorium and basement have been fixed at `2.5 lakh a day and `1.75 lakh for 12 hours. This is excluding cleaning charges of `15,000 and another  `15,000 for using the PA system, `30,000 towards power tariff, 12.36 per cent service charges and a refundable caution deposit of `20,000. An additional `5,000 would have to be paid for using the generator.

For renting the first floor and basement alone, the charges have been set at `59,940 for a day and `29,475 for 12 hours.  Amma Arangam, however, would not be rented out for any political or quasi political programmes apart from the ones in which the state Chief Minister, Ministers or the Mayor take part. It can be booked three months in advance and interested parties could approach Zone Eight officials for booking.
