CHENNAI: A 24-year-old employee of a juice shop reportedly leaped to death from the sixth floor accommodation on Sardar Patel Road in the wee hours on Thursday. Police said Selvam, (24), a native of Thirumalthurai village, Perambalur district, was locked in his accommodation after he got drunk, by his employer who runs a juice shop in the same complex, on Wednesday night.
Selvam’s school mate Vivek who came visiting on Wednesday night let the former out of the room and left for his place after having a chat. Selvam was found dead before the building complex around midnight by the passersby.
Adayar police who were informed about the incident moved the body to the Government Royapettah Hospital.
Preliminary investigations revealed Selvam who had an affair with a married woman in the neighbourhood was going out with her to various places in the City and this affected his work. His employer, Ramesh, (46), who caught him red-handed last week chided Selvam for not being sincere and for his absenteesm.
Selvam was chided again on Wednesday by his employer. When Selvam was found in an inebriated condition Ramesh thought it was better to keep Selvam inside the room. Selvam who became emotional pleaded to be let out of the room.
After Vivek came, Selvam convinced him to open the door and had a good chat. Vivek who thought Selvam was alright left the place. But Selvam reportedly climbed the balcony and leaped down to death when there was no one around.
According to his co-workers, he was quite upset over the scolding from his employer and had been keeping to himself.
Selvam was working here for over a year now and was referred to this juice shop by Vivek.
Ramesh has been booked for abetting the suicide of Selvam and has been remanded to judicial custody.
Probe into Suicide
Classmates of the 14-year-old girl who committed suicide after being bullied by her classmates were quizzed by the city police on Thursday.
The teachers and members of the school management were among others quizzed by police in connection with the suicide case in which the family has claimed that classmates of their child abetted her suicide.
However, the questioning does not seem to have shed any light into the allegations made by the girl’s family.
