Express News Service

CHENNAI: A sub inspector in Villupuram was transferred after he lost a walkie-talkie while on duty.

According to sources, Natarajan was a sub-inspector attached to the Auroville police station. On August 7, he took a walkie talkie when he went for night patrol, and misplaced it. He failed to inform this to his higher officials. The next day, station inspector Pradeep Kumar noticed that one walkie-talkie was missing and found that it was last taken by Natarajan.

The Inspector took the issue to Kottakupam Deputy Superintendent of Police S Gnanavel, who gave Natarajan time to find the missing device. A week ago, the issue got leaked on WhatsApp and the news reached District Superintendent of Police K S Narendran Nayar, who ordered an inquiry. When the device was not found even after three weeks, he issued an order on Monday transferring Natarajan to Kedar police station. The SP, however, denied that the transfer was due to the missing walkie-talkie.

Man held for acid attack

The Thirumangalam police claimed to have cracked Tuesday’s acid attack case, where a 30-year-old Income Tax department employee Mohit Padak suffered 40 per cent burns. Police arrested a 30-year-old man in this connection.

The accused has been identified as G Prabu, of KK Nagar. Police said he had worked as an office assistant in the IT department from 2010 to 2015, when he reportedly got into a relationship with a 24-year-old female colleague. Though Prabu quit the job in 2015, he continued his relationship with the girl. However, the victim Mohit Padak, who joined the I-T department in 2015 soon after he left, was reportedly getting closer to the girl, which made the accused jittery and possessive.

So, he planned to eliminate Mohit. He stocked the acid meant for office bathroom cleaning and attacked the victim at his residence in the Central Revenue Quarters and fled away, the police said.
