CHENNAI: A BE/B Tech student enrolling this year would have to now clear all papers within three years after finishing the course, Higher Education Secretary Sunil Paliwal said here on Sunday.
Speaking at a press meet, he explained this would mean the students would have a total of seven years, the four-year course period and three more years, to clear all papers to be eligible to get the degree.

“We have said it clearly that students have to complete their education within 7 years. Last year there were 6,000 arrear papers for evaluation. Normally, this should be only around 1,800,” Paliwal said. The officials are worried about the burden of the arrear students getting more attention than the regular students.

He also stressed that all affiliated colleges must strictly follow the schedule issued by the Anna University. The colleges that are deviating will lose points on affiliation and downgrading of the rank.

He said the schedule is designed with the aim of giving adequate time for the students to do internships.

Speaking on the selection of the next Vice-Chancellor for the university, Paliwal said the search committee would be accepting applications till August 21. “The search committee is also writing to the institutes of repute across the world. There are many Tamilians who would want to come and serve in Anna University and many of them might be alumni of the university. We still have time till October 15 for VC selection,” he said.
