CHENNAI: A State-level conference of OBC wing of the BJP seems to have annoyed S Ramadoss, founder of PMK, which got a Lok Sabha seat in the last general election.

Ramadoss, in a tweet, said no one could separate Vanniyars from PMK as it was constantly working for the welfare of the community.

OBC wing of the BJP is conducting a State-level conference, “Mandhira Maalai Thamarai”, on July 7 with an aim to mobilise OBC votes in general and Vanniyar votes in particular.

M .P. Feroze Gandhi, state vice president of OBC wing, told Express, “We, Vanniyar community, have been longing for 20 per cent  of separate reservation in State and two per cent of Central government jobs for the last four decades. For which, we have submitted several petitions to the DMK and the AIADMK, but nothing has been addressed.

Following our hectic appeal and severe protests of Vanniyar Sangam, the State provided 20 per cent reservation in State employment along with 107 other castes. We, Vanniyars, consider it is an eye wash as Vanniyars didn’t get their due share in the reservation as we have to fight with 107 other castes in the reservation quota” he said.
