3K land jobs in private sector at Chennai hiring camp

Of the 2,973 candidates selected for jobs, 1,145 were women. The selected candidates included 25 persons with disabilities.

CHENNAI: A total of 2,973 people secured jobs at a private sector recruitment camp held at the government girls higher secondary school in Ashok Nagar on Saturday.

The camp was organised by the Chennai District Employment and Career Guidance Centre under the Employment and Training department. Minister for Rural Development and Water Resources N Anand and Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development J Mohamed Farvas participated.

A total of 283 private companies, including Ashok Leyland, MRF, Bandhan Bank, Bharti Airtel, TAFE, MIOT International Hospital, L&T, Royal Enfield, Wheels India and Ramraj Cotton, took part in the camp. Ten skill training institutions also participated.

As many as 9,671 job seekers registered for the camp and attended interviews conducted by various companies. Of the 2,973 candidates selected for jobs, 1,145 were women. The selected candidates included 25 persons with disabilities.

Another 316 candidates cleared the first round of interviews and were shortlisted for the second round, taking the total number of beneficiaries to 3,289.

Besides, 57 candidates registered for skill training and 97 for overseas employment opportunities. Another 21 candidates took part in a psychometric assessment test. The ministers handed over appointment orders to selected candidates and addressed the gathering.

Senior officials from the labour welfare, skill development and employment and training departments also attended the event.
