NEW DELHI: Two women constables of the Punjab Police have been deployed on duty for Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur, who received death and rape threats after her campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) youth wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Praishad (ABVP) went viral.

This comes besides the security provided to the 20-year-old student by the Delhi Police.

Earlier on Monday, Gurmehar met Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal and said that she has been receiving "rape threats" on social media, allegedly by the ABVP members.

The Delhi Police also filed an FIR against the rape threat to the Lady Shri Ram College student.

Gurmehar, the daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh, sparked a controversy for her social media campaign against the ABVP following which she also received rape threats.

Clashes erupted last week after the ABVP students allegedly manhandled and thrashed students protesting the cancellation of an event at Ramjas College at which controversial JNU student Umar Khalid was scheduled to speak.
