NEW DELHI: The Left backed Rajib Ray of Democratic Teachers Front (DTF) was elected as president of Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) on Friday. This is the fourth time that the Left backed organization has won the teacher's body elections.

Ray got 2636 votes while, VS Negi, the candidate of the RSS-backed National Democratic Teachers' Front lost by a small margin of 261 votes getting 2,375 votes in his favour.

Ray is from Kirori Mal College and Negi from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College.

“The DTF has won at a time when the Central Government has chosen to unleash the worst possible set of policy changes based on a blueprint prepared by the NITI Aayog. The election victory is a mandate against the Government's push towards commercialization and dismantling of public funded education through schemes self-financing courses and graded autonomy. It is a mandate to defend the rights and dignity of teachers” said the DTF in a statement.
