While government is busy in discussing stringent law for population control, one baby born in every 90 seconds in National capital. Delhi Government has released latest annual Report on “Registration of Births and Deaths in Delhi-2016” which says that total 3,79,161 births were registered in the year. According to the government, Delhi saw all time high deaths and births in 2016. Delhi has seen a jump of 15% in number of deaths in 2016. According to the report, 1,41,632 people died in Delhi in the year 2016 and 124516 death registration were done in 2015.
Good news is that the Sex Ratio (Number of females per thousand males) at birth has increased from 898 in the year 2015 to 902 in the year 2016 in Delhi. “The report reveals that the average number of births per day in Delhi during 2016 is 1036 and average number of deaths is 387. Thus the net natural increase in population of Delhi is 649 per day and 2.37 lakh in a year. The remaining increase in the population of Delhi is due to migration,” Delhi government said in a statement.
Delhi government data shows that the c-section rate in Government hospital is just 20 per cent while the rate of cesarean is almost 50 per cent in private hospitals. In Government hospitals almost 2 lakh babies born in 2016 and 1,60,000 were through normal delivery. On the other side, private hospitals had almost 46,000 birth cases and almost 23,000 were through c-section.
Delhi government has claimed that they successfully achieved 100% registration of death and birth cases. The report has been compiled by a dozen of officers of Delhi government headed by a special secretary rank official.
