NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Thursday opposed the bail pleas of nine people arrested in connection with a violent protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Daryaganj. The counsel for the arrested claimed that the police had detained many people but decided to arrest only 15 who have no prior antecedents. Additional Sessions Judge Satish Kumar reserved his order on the bail applications of the nine persons and said the decision would be pronounced on December 28.
The court will also hear on the same day the arguments on the bail plea of other six persons arrested in the case. The court has asked the police to verify the address and other details of one of the arrested accused in the case. One of those arrested had claimed he was a juvenile. However, the police said he told them he was 23. Meanwhile, two accused of the December 19 Seelampur violence have filed bail pleas before the Karkardooma court.
The plea, filed by Moinuddin and Yusuf Ali stating that they had clean records and were never involved in any criminal activities is likely to be heard on Friday. Mandoli jail authorities also submitted a report regarding the medical treatment of Moinuddin before Karkardooma court, stating that he suffered “blast injury on his right hand”. He was lodged at the Central Jail 12, Mandoli on December 20 and was examined at the jail OPD the next day and prescribed treatment as per the need, the report said.

Around 213 people were detained during a protest outside Uttar Pradesh Bhawan to oppose the brutality by police against civilians in the state. A large number of people had gathered to protest against the killings of those who came out to raise their voice against the CAA and NRC.
