NEW DELHI: Delhi Fire Department will conduct a fire safety audit of shops and restaurants across the national capital, Chief Minister Atishi said on Tuesday.

The move comes after a massive fire broke out at a building in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden market around 2 pm on Monday due to a suspected short circuit.

Delhi Police has registered an FIR against an unknown person in connection with the matter. While no casualty has been reported so far, people were seen jumping off the building.

Police said they have launched an investigation into the matter and are checking the CCTV footage to investigate the cause.

Meanwhile, Atishi visited Rajouri Garden and talked to the shopkeepers.

“Yesterday, an unfortunate incident of fire took place at a restaurant in Rajouri Garden. Today, I visited the spot and inspected it. Due to the lack of proper drainage, the MCD and the Fire Department had already cancelled the NOC of the restaurant and ordered it to be closed.

“Still, police are investigating the cause of the fire. Strict action will be taken against the culprits. To prevent the recurrence of such incidents, the Fire Department has been instructed to conduct a fire safety audit across Delhi,” she wrote on X.

The CM assured strict action against those responsible, stating, “Whoever is found guilty in this incident will face the strictest action. If any restaurant is found violating fire safety norms, immediate action will be taken. Commercial activities will not be allowed in any building that lacks a valid Fire NOC to prevent such incidents in the future.”
