NEW DELHI: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has put in place a comprehensive preparedness plan to ensure seamless urban services, world-class cleanliness, enhanced aesthetics and efficient civic management in the NDMC area ahead of the BRICS Summit in the capital.
NDMC chairman Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, after holding a review meeting on the BRICS Summit preparation, said, “The preparedness plan is aimed at ensuring efficient planning, coordinated execution, uninterrupted civic services and international standards of urban management throughout the Summit period. All departments have been directed to work in close coordination to ensure that the capital presents a clean, green, well-maintained and aesthetically enhanced face to international delegates and visitors.”
As part of the beautification strategy, 41 major roads have been identified and divided into 14 circles, with a dedicated nodal officer for each circle. Each Nodal Officer, along with the concerned field team, will undertake daily field walks and inspections to ensure strict compliance with the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
For enhanced visual appeal, 15 locations have been identified for floral boards, 9 locations for flower fountains and 17 roundabouts for special beautification. Round-the-clock sanitation arrangements, including deployment of additional sanitation staff and special night-duty teams from September 9 to 14 are also on the cards.
Intensive cleaning using mechanical road sweepers, gobblers, manual and ride-on sweepers and scrubbers, along with temporary dustbins, mobile toilets and stray animal removal, will form part of the sanitation plan. The council will also maintain coordination with hotels, Resident Welfare Associations, Market Traders Associations and other stakeholders to ensure cleanliness in the identified areas.
The horticulture plan includes landscaping, plantation of seasonal flowers, greening of brown patches, maintenance of green corridors, pruning of shrubs and installation of floral boards and decorative planters.
Infrastructure maintenance has also been prioritised, including repair of potholes and footpaths. All public toilets in identified areas will be inspected to ensure that they are functional, they said.
