Inspire India launched its campaign ‘Tapas’ in the city on Friday. It aims to train over 30,000 youngsters in “developing communication and choice-making skills and inculcating a sense of purpose for life.”

Founder and managing trustee of Inspire India Trust, Raju Ravitej said over 1500 institutions have already joined the campaign and 1310 attended its first phase. “Every child goes through a turbulent teenage period when his/her identity is formed. The child needs a caring adult at this critical juncture of life. At Tapas, we are training a group of youngsters to be the ‘caring adult.’ We are planning to train 300 youngsters by December 31,” said Ravitej.

Meanwhile, danseuse and social activist  Mallika Sarabhai who contested the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate, extended her support to the campaign. Briefing the press she said, “Five years ago when I went about looking for a few dedicated people wiling to work for the society, it was difficult to find even two. My idea of bringing change in the society is to inspire children, help them build a strong character and stand by their convictions. I want the next generation to be strong and join the fight in cleaning up the system.”

When asked how much personally she would be involved in the campaign, she said, “I will invite youngsters from Inspire India to come and see my election campaigns. That will work as an eye-opener for them.”
